The gold filled converter carries a thick layer of 14k gold, the same standard as all our gold filled jewelry the sterling version is 925 silver; and the solid gold converter matches our 14k solid gold chains link for link. All three are waterproof and sweat-proof, so they stay on in the shower, and they are covered by the same warranty as the rest of the range.

A magnetic clasp converter works as a short necklace clasp extender: it adds its own length between the clasp and the end ring, which is usually enough to stop a 16 inch chain feeling tight at the collarbone. If a necklace extender chain of two inches or more is what you need, we do not make one yet; the converter is the right buy when the chain is close to right and the clasp is the real problem.

Skip the necklace chain extender and choose a chain that adjusts. For a chunky chain or a large statement pendant, keep the original clasp; a magnet is not the right closure for real weight.
Yes. Magnetic clasps for bracelets work the same way: the converter fits any bracelet with a clasp and an end ring, and the magnets close on their own, so you can fasten it with one hand. Most people buy one for a necklace first, then add a second for a Paperclip Bracelet or another of our gold filled bracelets.

Partly. It adds a small amount of length, the length of the converter itself, which eases a snug chain but will not turn a choker into a longer necklace. We do not sell a separate necklace extender chain at the moment; for two inches or more, an adjustable chain or a longer chain from our gold filled necklaces is the better fix.
Match the chain. Gold filled for gold filled and vermeil chains, sterling silver for silver, and the solid 14k gold converter for solid gold pieces such as the 14k Gold Basic Cable Chain, so the clasp ages exactly like the chain. Gold filled and sterling are both nickel-free, so they suit sensitive skin.
For most people, yes. Two cautions: if you have a pacemaker or another implanted device, ask your doctor first, since device makers advise keeping magnets at least six inches away; and keep the converter away from small children, because the halves are small and the magnets are strong.
