14k Gold Filled Ring, Plated Ring or Solid Gold: Where These Sit

14k gold filled
Warm yellow gold that does not tarnish, so the ring stays on through showers and hand washing with no polishing. The pick when the rest of your jewelry is gold, a dainty necklace or a figaro bracelet, and you want one more piece you never have to think about.
925 sterling silver
Bright, cool and 100% recycled. Sterling does tarnish slowly, so a silver ring wants a wipe with a polishing cloth now and then and should come off for the pool. The pick if you wear a silver watch or silver hoops, or already own the design in gold and want it in a second color.
Mix them
Two-tone stacking is the easiest way to make three thin rings look deliberate: a sterling knot between two gold filled bands, or alternate metals finger by finger. A mixed stack also sits comfortably next to a gold lace chain and a steel watch on the same hand.
